Planning Your Visit

We look forward to fellowshipping with you and your family at Southern Heights Christian Church in Somerset, KY

If you are headed to the Lake Cumberland area for a visit we would love to see you while you are. Here are a few things we thought might be helpful:

Come Early

Not because you will need to catch a shuttle from the parking lot, or because all the good seats will be taken…arrive a few minutes early in order to grab a cup of coffee and take a minute to look around and meet a few people before the service begins…we are friendly folks and you’ll be glad that you did.

Come Prepared

We encourage our members (and visitors) to not make meeting together an afterthought. We love it when people show up no matter what, but we encourage everyone to try and put everything else aside and focus on God. If you pray we encourage you to pray concerning your interaction with God during our time together—pray that we make ourselves available when God shows up, and when that happens pray that we will be obedient to His direction.

Sunday School

Though many congregations have abandoned the idea of “Sunday school” (or at least the name) we believe that education is an important part of the ministry of the Church. We have a Sunday school program with classes for every age and we invite you to be a part of it.

Worship

Worship is all about God at SHCC. We don’t have a laser light show or the latest technology. We come together to celebrate what God is doing in our lives, to encourage and equip one another to serve. We use LOTS of different methods and means to do that. Sometimes we sing hymns, sometimes we sing contemporary praise songs, sometimes we have bluegrass instruments, other times we have just a piano, sometimes we use a band or just a guitar. We know we can’t please everyone so we strive to please God in whatever style or method we choose.

What About My Kids?

We are a multigenerational congregation (like a really big family!) as such we believe that it is important that our children understand how we, as adults, worship. To that end we invite children (grades 1-4) to participate with us at the beginning of each service, we then dismiss them to go downstairs with a volunteer for a more age appropriate interactive time.  A nursery is always available for families with infants.

Dress

We believe that being here is more important than what you wear. We are not large but our backgrounds are fairly diverse. To that end you will see jeans, khakis, suits, dresses, and slacks.  We strive to focus on God…not the latest fashion trends.
