About Us

Who We Are

Many people have asked to what denomination we belong. The fact is, we don’t belong to a denomination. Early in the nineteenth century there was unrest among the churches in America. Many denominations took the unpopular belief that the followers of Christ should lay aside the traditions of man and go back to the Church described in the New Testament. Thomas Campbell, Alexander Campbell, Walter Scott, and Barton W. Stone, were among the brave pioneers who advocated a discarding of all denominational names, creeds that dictate beliefs, and religious divisions.

Almost simultaneously, without knowledge of one another, these men appealed to all sincere believers to be “Christians and Christians only.” They aimed not to start another denomination, but to call people back to the Church of the New Testament. As followers of these ideals became aware of one another and began to fellowship together, the affiliation became known as the Restoration Movement. These Christians were attempting to restore Christianity to its original, New Testament form in order to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with everyone. Today, this remains the plea of Southern Heights Christian Church.
